Our Warm and Wonderful Staff...
North Douglas Preschool has been continually blessed with excellent staff who are dedicated to both their personal professions and the work of the Preschool.
As licensed Early Childhood Educators they seek to maintain a consistently high standard of care and are continually looking for ways to improve the quality of the program. These goals are primarily achieved through a systematic and ongoing process of professional education. Each year staff members attend many informational workshops and seminars designed to keep their skills and methods up-to-date. As well, they confer regularly with other childcare professionals and therapists in many related capacities about current best practice regarding the specific needs of the children in their care.
In addition to education our staff have accumulated many years of professional experience; combined, in excess of 130 years! As a parent you may rest assured that your child will enjoy a positive, memorable and effective early learning experience at North Douglas Preschool.
The Teaching Team
Chalcea Malec, E.C.E., Preschool Administrator
'Ms. Chalcea' has been happily employed with the Preschool for 12 years and with North Douglas Church for 19. She began her study of child development at the University of Saskatchewan in 1981 and after moving to Victoria, earned her License as an Early Childhood Educator from the Pacific Rim Early Childhood Institute. She completed the credentialling process with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada in 2005.

As Director of Children's Ministries and a member of the board of North Douglas Childcare Society she oversees a variety of programs in addition to the Preschool. Chalcea's greatest personal joy has been to watch her own three children grow into happy, healthy young adults and to have opportunity to work alongside them in ministry.

'Mrs. Jane' was born in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba and moved to the Island when she was two. After marrying Bill, Jane offered childcare from home while their four children were small. Jane considers working with children to be an honor and privilege; that for all her work to encourage their development she has herself been rewarded seeing their excitement in play and eagerness to learn. Jane's special joy has been having her own four grandchildren, grand-neices and nephews attend the Preschool as well.

All three of their young children attended the Preschool. She's also volunteered in a variety of programs for children and youth including 'Rainbows'. Rose especially appreciates the unique talents that each of her co-workers bring to the Preschool and in addition to teaching, most enjoys simply being with the children and encouraging them to grow into the unique characters each was created to be!
